Lori,
You might try using swell paper and your laser printer. I've done quite
a bit of printing from my computer using a laser printer and swell
paper. You can print out all kinds of stuff: Braille (done as a
computer font) and all kinds of graphics. This makes internet graphics
accessible as well as anything you can scan.
You'll need access to one of the heat treatment machines, but many
schools have these -- or at least know where to borrow one.
It's worth a try -- it's got to be a lot less expensive than buying an
embosser.
One caution: I wouldn't print too many swell pages at one time until
you're sure it won't jam your printer. The heat element on the laser
printer is almost hot enough to swell the paper and continuous use might
cause the element to heat up too much.
You'll also want access to a photo manipulation software program
Macromedia fireworks, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, etc.) that can turn
your images into greyscale, make halftones and adjust contrast. I think
you'll like the results.
Cost is about $1 USD per page.
