From a display of arts and crafts by visually-impaired members of Vista, www.vistablind.org.uk The exhibition was opened today, 4 April 2008, by the Lord Mayor of Leicester at the Richard Attenborough Centre on Lancaster Road, Leicester. In 1991, I conceived of The Blindness Series as an eight-tape project
to investigate physical blindness and its metaphors. Three reasons
motivated me: 1) a personal fear of vision loss; 2) blindness has been
a historical concern for many visual artists; and 3) I wanted to
explore the perceptual to conceptual process, which informs all that
we do.

A disability identity as an entertainer and an artist is a really hard thing to define in the US. If you are disabled - physically marred in any way - it really goes against your chances in succeeding in the entertaining "workplace". If you are not young, beautiful, perfectly formed, or at least rich, your chances of success in the entertaining business world start to languish. Despite your evident talent.
I am a disabled artist and jazz vocalist living in Chicago. I have Epilepsy, Lupus and I am partially blind.

Visually-impaired artist proves you don't need sight to paint masterpieces

Several months after beginning a degree in visual arts, Mark Couzens started to go blind. However, it turned out that was not enough to stop him from pursuing his passion. 

Mark Couzens splashes his paint through a perpetual fog.
He was diagnosed with rare angioid streaks three years ago, then six months later, the bleeding between the retina and macula left him legally blind.
