Hi,

Thinking about this some more, I think there could be a hidden benefit for low
vision Braille readers. There's some evidence to suggest that attention
operates in a cross-modal fashion, such as Driver and Spence (1998).
Therefore, in space based theories of attention at least, the object at a
particular point in space will focus the attention of all the sensory
modalities.

Further work done by Driver and Spence, as well as others, would seem to
indicate that this cross-modal linkage of attention operates in visuo-tactile
situations. Therefore, giving someone a visual target may enhance their
ability to pay attention to the Braille stimulus.
