[accessibleimage] Re: Q - Emprint from Viewplus

By default, the new Emprint and all other Tiger technology embossers produce a height-resolved gray scale of the image. So dark colors emboss with high dots, light colors with low dots. This tactual contrast is normally adequate for users to distinguish features such as lava from earth or ice. The tactual contrast can be amplified by altering the default tactual contrast and brightness if necessary. Ideally such images will be reproduced using IVEO so that these regions can be labeled, and the user can press on a feature and hear whether it is lava, earth, ice... Few people could really understand such complex images from tactile graphics alone. That's why IVEO was developed.

User options to emboss colors as tactual patterns are being researched but would probably not be a good choice for artistic-type images.

One of the visual pictures on the web link about the Emprint link shows a
volcano. There are different colors representing the different parts, i.e.
lava, ground, etc..., of the volcano. It looks the Emprint provides the
same texture to the entire picture. Does Emprint distinguish the colors in
any way (i.e. variances in the texture) so the blind reader can obtain the
same "visual" information? Or would this emboss as to provide only the
basic shape of the graphic?
