Prizes Given To Blind For Arts And Crafts

The recreational work of 125 blind women and children went on display
yesteiday at the Lighthouse of the New York Association for the Blind, 111
East Fifty-ninth Street, in its annual exhibition of ceramics, modeling and
handicrafts.

Before an audience of a hundred members of Lighthouse recreation classes and
volunteer teachers, Miss Jane Rose, women's recreation director, awarded
gold and silver medals and blue ribbons as first and second prizes and
honorable mentions for the best work of the year.

In the sewing groups, Mary Barnes and Esther Marmelstein received gold
medals and Marie Dandridge and Sarah Asch second prizes. For novelty work
the first prize went to Pauline Ziegler and second prize to Elsie
Fredericks. For the best work in sculpture Sarah Asch won first prize for a
boat, and the silver medal went to Clara Crampton for a group of Angels.

A blue vase modeled by Amelia Dodge won her the first prize.

In the work of twenty children shown, a ballet dancer modeled in clay by
Sally Sanchez, 7 years old, took first prize, while the second prize in clay
work went to Lillian Kinney for "Harvey Resting."
