[accessibleimage] Re: Origami question

Hi Lisa, I have a student at the Colorado Center for the Blind who is
displaying an entire origami castle that he made out of recycled Braille paper.
(It is great when a Braille reader accesses it, they can read as they explore!)
We are having an art show at the Colorado NFB state convention this weekend. I
will ask him if I can take some pictures to post online.
Last week he taught our art class how to fold what he called a basic shape but
I felt was a bit more complex that basic. He then fit the pieces together and
created an open topped box. It was a real challenge for him to accurately
describe and demonstrate what we needed to do. It was even a greater challenge
for us to properly accomplish the task but we did and the pieces all worked!
(Everyone in class works under sleep shades.)
I will ask him if he would like to join our list and answer your question. I
think your idea has merit. Ann

Subject: [accessibleimage] Origami question

Hi,
I have some questions about origami.
Does anyone have any experience with using origami to teach about
geometry?
What about using origami for making models for the visually impaired? I
came across Robert Lang's site.
The models he made were very complex and detailed and thought that this
might be a way to produce 3-D models by other means
http://www.langorigami.com/index.php4
Does anyone know books, articles ?
Any thoughts on the subject?

Best,
Lisa
