[accessibleimage] Re: New to Tactile Graphics

Hi Bret,

Just some information about TGD Pro. As far as I understand the whole set of programs in TGD Pro do not seem to be available anymore. It included a program to convert images so that they could be swelled, an embosser program (QuickTac  ), an editing part of the program which one could increase in size whinch made it easier to edit,   and a program combining sound and tactiles with a touch sensitive screen. It was the Granddaddy of them all. Developed by Dr. Don Parkes. It is listed at Duxbury, though it does not seem to be available. However,  QuickTac, a progam in TGD Pro, is available and free from Duxbury. There is a new version of QuickTac - Beta 4 which is very nice.
It can be used with many different embossers. It is not possible to import a picture and emboss out unless you first convert a picture to a "fill" for QuickTac. It is a way around not being able to import into QuickTac.

Then there is PictureBraille at Pentronics. It is possible to download a demo to try it out. For math there are some features that seem to be very nice. However, am unsure if it embosses with Tiger.

With Tiger you will be able to draw graphics in Window and convert. In Windows you import the graphic you are going to make. It will act as a reference to what you are drawing.Using  the drawing tools in Window you draw over the imported graphic, add labels etc. When you are finished you delete the imported graphic and then emboss what you have drawn.

Regards,

Lisa

Hi All,
I am a Braille Transcriber with a school district, and am visually impaired.  One of our students is going to be taking an algebra/geometry class next year. We will be required to create all of the charts, graphs, and other graphics for the class.  I am using Duxbury as my translation software and am using a program called Scientific NoteBook to create all of the mathematical text.  I was told that there is a program that works with Duxbury called TGD Pro which allows you to copy an image and then import it into a duxbury file.  Does anyone have any good ideas or suggestions for me on the best way to create a tactile graphic electronically?  I have limited sight, so being able to draw or create things by hand may be out of the question.  Our district will be getting one of the new Tiger braille embossers so I think I can create tables and charts with excel and then emboss them.  Thanks for any suggestions or advice.
Bret
