Dear List,
Last Friday, Karen Gourgey and I attended the National Braille Press Hands
On Gala in Boston, where we received the first Louis Braille Touch of Genius
Award for our work on the Talking Tactile Tablet, also known as TTT or T3.
The award recognizes innovations that promote tactile literacy. The event
was fantastic and really fun, and we were both thrilled to be recognized in
this way. Over 700 people were there, and Jay Leno performed a hilarious
stand up comedy routine. The Gibney Family Foundation has committed to
making the award an annual event, so I would encourage everyone to start
thinking about the next big innovation. A lot of people around the world
seem to be very interested in tactile graphics right now. A couple of weeks
ago, 300 people attended the Art Beyond Sight Conference at the Metropolitan
Museum in New York, and there was a very palpable feeling of energy and
enthusiasm for the ideas being discussed there. It's a great moment for our
field, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
