I don't have any experience with that, but I can say that I find it intriguing to use my tongue on Pizza Hut suckers to identify the letter that is on one side and the number on the other side.

OK what about a real low tech version of this. When I first read the title of the article I thought they meant candy lollipops. Not so, but could that idea be used? That is for example, learning geometrical shapes. Triangle lolllipops, square lollipops,
pentagons etc.
