Educations Program Assistant
Education
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world's finest museums, seeks a
full-time Educations Program Assistant for the Education Department. The
Educations Program Assistant will provide all administrative support for the
two Museum Educators in Access Coordination, whose activities include
developing and running programs for visitors with disabilities, coordinating
all access accommodations throughout the Museum, and working with all Museum
departments on accessibility issues.
Primary responsibilities include: working closely with and assisting the two educators in all facets of Access Coordination work, including guided tours, Sign Language interpreted programs, Deaf intern training, programs with assistive listening devices, lectures with Real Time captioning, workshops for Sign Language interpreters, workshops for visitors with visual impairments, verbal imaging and touch tours, the Touch Collection, offsite programs, Discoveries family programs, statistics, mailing lists, large print labels, publications and brochures.
The Education Programs Assistant will also take program reservations (and payments where required); book Sign Language interpreters, captioners and educators; confirm participants for programs (reminder calls to visually impaired people); prepare contracts and payments; notify lecturers of accommodations to their programs and provide them with guidelines; coordinate accommodations to be used in programs, such as assistive listening devices (obtained from Antenna); collect and prepare monthly and annual program statistics, and other reports as needed, provide administrative support for Sign Language interpretation and Real Time captioning, involving contact with lecturers, interpreters and captioners regarding logistical issues, provide administrative support for production and maintenance of large print labels, including liaison with Design, curators, Office Services, Editorial, and Visitor Services; helping to put labels in order; and replacing large print label books throu!

They will also assist with brochure production: assemble information for
bi-monthly Signs of Art calendar from Museum calendar, family and children's
programs, and other sources; help with preparation and proofing of copy for
Touch and Explore brochure, Discoveries brochure, Access Information brochure,
and other program flyers; Will also coordinate brailing of these with external
braille producer, and coordinate information and proof copy for Museum Calendar
and fact sheets relating to Access Coordination; Assist with running of
programs such as workshops for visually impaired people, which require extra
assistance, and distribute and monitor assistive listening devices for
scheduled gallery talks with FM systems; Assist with preparation of reports and
proposals for Development, including gathering statistical and budget
information, comments from visitors, and other supporting information; Maintain
and develop mailing lists for brochure mailings relating to our programs !
and services, these lists total some 5,300 individuals and organizations and
coordinate mailings of brochures with Educational Media and volunteers, and
keep other Education administrative staff aware of Access Coordination programs
and procedures.
Successful candidates will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and computer skills (Word and Excel) are required. Attention to detail is a must. Bachelor degree required with a preferred background in Art History. Knowledge of accessibility and disability community is also preferred.
