Field Test Opportunities
Below are two field test opportunities in the area of Tactile Graphics.
If you are interested in participating as a field evaluator of either,
please contact Karen Poppe, APH Tactile Graphics Project Leader, at
kpoppe@xxxxxxx <mailto:kpoppe@xxxxxxx> or by phone at 800/223-1839, ext
322 by March 15. In both cases, evaluators will be asked to use the
prototype with as many students with visual impairments and blindness as
possible as well as complete an evaluation regarding product's design,
function, and usefulness. Evaluators will be selected based upon type of
setting, available number of students, and geographical location. Due to
the limited number of prototypes, it will not be possible for all those
who respond to be selected as evaluators. Below is a brief description
of each product and its target population:
1.
Scattered Crowns: A Tactile Attribute Game: This tactile/print
board game is aimed at children 5 years and older. Its purpose is
to encourage the development of fine tactile discrimination skills
related to textures and shapes. The difficulty of the game can be
tailored to the age and skill level of the players.
StackUps: Spatial Reasoning Using Cubes and Isometric Drawings.
This set of materials is intended for middle-school and high
school students with visual impairments and blindness. Its purpose
is to assist in the interpretation of raised-line graphics
depicting three-dimensional figures, specifically stacked cube
arrangements. Using three-dimensional stackable cubes and tactile
matching cards, the students can practice building
three-dimensional models in combination with tactile displays,
using Mat Plans to construct stacked cube arrangements,
interpreting front-right-top views, and determining volume and
surface area.
