Cummer Museum wins national art award

Today, three art education representatives from the Cummer Museum of Art &
Gardens, Hope McMath, Chrys Yates and Ali Fuderer, will attend the Art Beyond Sight
symposium at the Metropolitan Museum in New York to receive The Art Beyond Sight
Award 2005, an annual award bestowed by Art Education for the Blind, a national
non-profit organization. The Cummer started its programming for blind and people
with low vision nine years ago, and holds an Art Beyond Sight Awareness week each
year.

McMath said this is the first time the Cummer has ever received the award.

"It is a big deal," she said. "The reason why it's important is it tends to raise
awareness of accessibility in general . . . it arms us to continue these kinds of programs."

McMath and her colleagues will also serve on a panel at the Museum of Modern
Art during the two-day symposium.
