A brief word on the ViewPlus PIA vs. Enabling Technologies' TranSend, a
dual print/braille device. I have not had experience or even seen the
PIA; however, after several years of wrestling with the TranSend, I would
gladly switch--sight unseen. Using the TranSend is a 2-step operation:
first you print to the inkprint printer, precisely an Epson FX-2180
model--very cumbersome to use, in my opinion. This printer is the one
that ET has assigned to be compatible with the TranSend and comes bundled
with it. Then, you must insert the ink printed copy into the embosser for
the braille to emboss underneath the print--line for line. Frankly, I
have had difficulty with the print printer efficiently feeding the braille
paper and the TranSend device has a tricky little keypad that demands a
high degree of dexterity to precisely register the necessary instruction
for the printer and embosser. Another downside--TranSend only works well
with the Duxbury Braille Translator--not a favorite of many transcribers,
myself included.

I held a stripe from the tiger tree,
An emerald snowflake,
An orange drop of rain,
And thirteen purple grains of sand.
Then I opened my fingers --
And I let them fly free!"
