Braille mouse-like computer display

By Barb Dybwad

Normally, displays for the visually impaired are rather on the large and
expensive side. Many actuators are used to create these refreshable tactile
displays with 20 - 80 braille cells, each with eight pins that can be raised or
lowered to represent braille points.

The Braille mouse takes a different approach, simulating the larger display in
a much smaller form factor by employing a rotating disc. The braille cells live
inside a mouse-like case, with a reading window inside to allow users to feel
the characters on the disc. An activation mechanism below the disc brings the
braille pins into the correct orientation.
