Hi,
I was just reading Oliver Sacks book An Anthropologist on Mars and
wondered 
Could   drawing  be divided in three parts.
1. the inherent, that which is "hardwired" in everyone includes eg math,
information component need (contours - need in the same way one needs
vitamins, as a component for development)
2. the intake: senses
3. the output:ability to draw, coordination

Would it not make it easier to understand how Esref draws then, that is he
is 1. hardwired like everyone to look for contour information 2. his
intake sense of touch is working fine 3. his output ability is in very
fine working order and in addition learns very well
And perhaps the the ability to draw can  be seen as a result of these
three parts?
