Hi Andrew.
George was asking again what was keeping my file so I had a look in my Sent
Items folder and when I opened my message to him, jaws announced "
OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail." Does
this mean that the attachment I sent you and Gorge was held back?

Hi George.

I also complained about the terrible noise coming from my computer and
the
lady took me into the lab at the back of the shop. To my surprise, there
was my computer on a bench running as quietly as a mouse. I told her
that
the noise was driving me mad and she pointed to the machine stating that
she
could not hear anything. Sure enough, when I put my ear to the machine,
I
too could hardly hear a thing. However, when I got home and returned my
computer to it's normal location, the noise was back. I've tried lifting
each corner very slightly in case it was like a fridge in the sense that
it's balance needed slight adjustments. After a month or so of trying to
achieve this, I gave up. It's a great computer George: Very quick with
everything, but I cannot listen to music from the CD player because of
the
noise. My older Packard Bell, which is about three years old and now
belongs to Pauline, is silent.
Best wishes.

Fan noise is something which you can often deal with
yourself. Indeed there is a very good article on the
subject at:- (Watch out for the long URL - it should end in
"your-pc.html")
http://www.compshopper.co.uk/shopper/features/67514/silence-
your-pc.html
Essentially there are usually up to four fans.
1) The CPU Fan.
2) The Power Supply Fan.
3) The General Case Circulation Fan.
4) Specific Board Fans. (For example on a Video Card)
Although you will usually require help from someone familiar
and experienced with working inside PCs, you can often cut
noise down without spending too much. (Other than a beer or
three for the helper!)
Fans get dirty, so clean them with either a small dry paint
brush, or a can of compressed air.
You be surprised how much noise is actually just plain old
vibration. A loose cable can vibrate against the side of
the case, when all it needs is a cable tie, or even a small
piece of insulating tape, to keep it clear.
In some cases, a tiny drop of oil can work wonders with a
noisy fan. Bearings can dry out, but be careful to use only
a small amount of oil, and plane to replace the fan anyway.
If all else fails, try and identify the fan which makes the
most noise, and consider replacing it with a silent type.
Fans are not generally expensive, especially when you
consider the cost over the life of the PC, not to mention
your personal comfort during that period.
George.

Yes, the noise is an issue but I'm sure computers will
