Hi

Managed to get on to the site, using the tab key just made Hal/Supernova say
"visited link", if I used the cursor keys it was all jibberish, sounded a bit
like computer code, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks

Trace

  Trace,

Are you both paid un or unpaid members on Sendspace?

This performance optimisation over weeks is utter nonsense from DSL
providers. Hallo improve your algorithms that handle load balancing, and stop
throwing things like modems booting up etc to brush off your poor quality of
service!

28 minutes for a 25 meg file? That's insane in the UK/Ireland broadband
world!

OK, being rational and trying not to be a Cable fan boy too much...
Sendspace if you are not on a paid account can be quite stingy with how much
throughput they allocate you to download at.

So Try downloading the Windows Weekly (42meg( podcast from the following site
and let us know how long it took and what the speed it was coming down at when
it finished. Untick the box marked Close this box when download completes and
read the dialog box with your mouse cursor.

If youa re using Jaws you can capture the screen by ctrl insert v, ctrl all
to select all and ctrl c to copy the text to the clipboard. Hit escape to
unvirtualise the window and paste the clipboards contents intoa new mail.

The url to download from is,

  http://leoville.tv/podcasts/leo.xml

I downloaded it in 43 seconds here on a wireless connection at home.

I am on cable though and the 20MB package, so not bragging just showing what
is possible with Cable.

You haven't recently changed broadband speeds have you? If you change
broadband speeds it can take a few weeks for it to work out the best
performance for your line and during that time you can have slower speeds and
can even loose your connection briefly.

    Hi Trace,

The speed should be nothing to do with the router not being powered up.
Once the router is fully booted, it should be up to speed.

    All the best

    Steve

    Hi

This kind of connects with my plusnet problem.

A friend of mine who has a virgin media account and the same connection
speed as I have carried out an experiment, we downloaded the same file at the
same time from sendspace [ring tones] to see how much slower my download speed
is to his, i it took my friend 7 minutes 21 seconds and it tooke me 28 minutes
and 3 seconds, the file was 25 megs in size.

I'd written to plusnet but had no reply so bit the bullet and went online,
I had problems getting supernova to let me write in the edit field at first but
with a bit of help from Mummy dearest [ my Mum] I got there, their reply says
that my slow down is because I don't leave the rooter powered up, I know loads
of people who don't do this and don't have this problem, can someone explain if
this is correct or not.

also, does the computer need to be on for the rooter to be powered up as I
often leave the power going to it but with the computer off?

    Thanks

    Trace
