Also with file and print sharing you can see files on both machines.

Hi,
You need a wireless router to get the desktop and laptop online at the
same time. Something like the Netgear DG834 range will be fine. The
desktop should have a LAN port that plugs into the router, and the
laptop connects wirelessly to the router.
As for laptops, they of course have USB ports on them, and you can
connect a card reader. They also have in-built card readers.
Dell do a whole range of laptops, depending on what you want. I tend to
go lower spec on the laptops than on the desktops, but you need to
decide on whether it should be a desktop replacement, or to compliment
the desktop. If you are using it in the house only then it may be
cheaper to get a second desktop? I don't know the anser to any of
these, but they are questions you need to ask.
Andrew.

and=20
network the two together wirelessly, I take it that this is possible,
does=20
it mean one computer will be able to access anything on the other? even
the=20
stuff in the card reader on the desktop?
can you get laptops with card readers inbuilt or do you have to connect
them=20
via the usb as you do with a desktop? i assume you can get laptops with
usb=20
sockets? anyone got any recommendations on laptops? large hard drive,
core=20

Hi Keith,
This is probably a limitation in the Netgear software. As a rule of
thumb, whenever I set these up, I find the option in the Netgear utility
to allow Windows to control the wireless network, then you administer it
through the control panel | networks | wireless networks. When you do
this, Windows will manage the connection state and allow power users
(what Windows sometimes call standard users) the rights to connect.
Andrew.

Hi,
Looking for some help in sorting out the family chrismas present.
System is xp pro usb netgear wireless adapter connecting to vigor
router.
I have created user accounts for each family member.
Problem is that when I log in to the accounts that do not have
administrator=3D20
privilidges, I am unable to connect to the router. The connection =
is=3D20
reported as having little or no connectivity but the signal is reported
as=3D20
excellent.
I have checked the allow all users to use the connection in the wireless
network setup.
If I change the account to administrator level, I am able to =
connect=3D20
normally.
Also, wonder if anyone can recommend some reading material on this=3D20
subject.
Keith
