Kevin,

I think you're maybe confusing your getting onto the Internet with both
machines and having a Home network for them to network and talk together.

They're both concepts to understand.

I have my laptop and desktop as my Home network and then, in addition, I can
allow a friend's laptop to use my wireless connection to the big wide world,
but my home network would not let it look at home computers and it wouldn't
see them either.

Clear! <Smile>

So you now need to make sure they see each other and set up your home
network.

I can't get bogged down by the network adapters you need to have installed
and such like. I'm assuming you're all ready to go . . ..

To do this you first turn on all computers, printers etc that you want to
include at home.

In my case I turned on the desktop, already connected to the Internet, and
my laptop, with wireless capability.

Now you need to run the Windows XP Network setup wizard, first on your main
computer and then on any additional computers.

Here's a small snippit from Windows HELP:

The final step is to run Windows XP Network Setup Wizard. You'll need to do
this first on the ICS host computer, then on each of the client computers.
The
wizard guides you through the following steps:

list of 8 items
. Configuring your network adapters.
. Configuring all of your computers to share one Internet connection.
. Naming each computer.
. Automatically sharing the Shared Files folder with the computers on the
network.
. Automatically sharing printers that are connected to computers on the
network.
. Installing a firewall.
. Installing network bridging components.
. Installing Internet Connection Sharing Discovery and Control components.
list end

Don't let that bit sound complicated. Once you're into the Wizard it's not
so bad . . ..

To run the Wizard . . . the Help gives instructions as follows:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Set up or change
your home or small office network.

From that point I followed my nose, asked the odd question or two and found
I was sailing!

Hope this helps a bit, at least so far as understanding what you have to do.

Come back to all with questions. (I'm not your expert - just a tap under
pressure! <Smile>)
