Hi christine.

Thanks for the advice. I am probably not looking for a washer with a dryer
because I have heard consistantly poor reports of the dryers that come with
washers and, at least as importantly, the block of flats I live in has a
laundry available but the washer there is not accessible, it is in high
demand as well. There are 2 dryers that I can use for heavier clothing such
as Jeans etc. I do take on board the thing about digital displays. Most of
the units costing less than £300 don't seem to have a digital display but I
will of course go into a shop and check before buying.

You do tend however to get relatively poor sales people working in many of
these shops who can not answer questions about how you set the washer etc.
which can make things difficult.

Are there any brands I should avoid? are there still brands that can fit a
pannel with braille info on it relating to the most commonly used programs?
I can't see me using more than 3 or 4 programs at all anyway. Machines in
laundries are often nice and simple so I wonder why home machines have to
have 12 or more programs?

Regards

Graham

Washing machines are changing All the Time, but Beware, Don't get one with a
digital display, you Need Push buttons, if your in a flat or think you may
have trouble hanging out clothes, be Sure to get one with a tumble dryer,
its better to have one and not use it, than not have one and wish you had.
I go for the Cheapest with these features, because I know that the more you
pay the more suffisticated it is, because Cheap means your not paying for
features you will be unable to use. Don't get Less than a 1400 RPM Spin
speed and if you are on ecconomy seven as I am then one with a delay timor
is very useful.

Theres no substitute to going into the shop and Feeling the machine for
yourself, but life Can be made a lot easier if you telephone as many shops
as you can think of (that sell washer/dryers) and make a not of the 3
cheapest, the make and model number, and Stress you Must have the above
features, and Mustn't have digital. Once you have all that info, take
yourself to the cheapest place and order the goods. Often ordering online
is Even cheaper and can have free delivery too, so take your time to check
these things out.

Good luck, Christine W.----- Original Message -----

Subject: [access-uk] washing machines

Hi all.
I am having my kitchen redone by my housing association and am currently
researching washing machines. I fully intend having a good look round
before buying and have had some good advice as to the kind of features to
look for but I wondered if anyone had bought any current models recently?

I wash a range of my own clothes but I am hardly a fashion guru and have
little in the way that needs to be handwashed as far as I know. I currently
take it all down the laundrette and it all gets thrown in together!

I'm looking therefore for a reasonably easy washing machine to use with a
decent spin facility that's reasonably straight forward to use without
sight. Any advice much appreciated.
