Andy, thank you so much for all your help. My husband looked at that but
then Jaws has been playing up too, so we did a Jaws repair and voila, the
volume control came back, don't know how, don't know why but now I'm happy,
so thank you for all your suggestions and help, it's much appreciated.

I'm not sure how or why it is grade out, but try following my suggestion via
the Control Panel route, and see if you can click the link that will put an
icon in the system tray. If it's showing grade out from within the Control
Panel, and clicking it doesn't change anything, then I'm at a loss too -
