I think it would be great if JAWS placemarkers would allow you to jump
straight away to the first/second/third instance of any given string on a
web page, rather than just a specific line in the virtual buffer. This
would make them far more useful.

Hi Steve
Of course if the person had J-Say Pro (smile), they could say "find
cached". Not difficult.
Alternatively, if using jaws, a script could be written to find the first
instance of the word Cached, then put the person back a link. The person
would only then have to press the keystroke to get to the google search
results of importance.
Seriously Steve though, I agree with you. Along with table navigation
keys, the jaws find is one of the essential tools anyone should have when
browsing the web which surprisingly get overlooked.

Hi James,
This is always a difficult one though. How for example, do you train
someone to use a computer, before they know the keyboard? You have to
make
some assumptions, and I think training on the virtual find, should be
quite
early on in the process of teaching the web with JAWS. But of course,
this
is my personal view, and not necessarily a recommendation.

Hi Steve
yes I have purchased both of these tutorials and agree they are
excellent.
I was just trying to think of the person who Graham is training though,
entering "cached" is all very well if you understand the idea of the
virtual
find feature and if you have a basic grasp of what "cached" means and why
you are entering it, but that might not be the most intuitive method for
someone with no experience at all. Jonathan's tutorials are good, but he
wisely assumes a reasonable degree of computer knowledge (how else would
you
purchase and play the tutorial?).

Hi James,
I tend to follow Graham's way and search for the word Cached, and that
tends
to work.
By the way, there is an excellent tutorial on Google from Jonathan Mosen
on
http://www.mosenexplosion.com. And if you think you know Google well, so
did I, but I still learned from it.
I don't sell this or anything, but I do highly recommend it. His
tutorial
Speaking Of Skype is equally excellent. As ever, they are both very well
researched. They are a bit JAWS oriented, but you can still get a lot
from
them if you use another screen reader.

Try playing with the "next non-linked text" setting and personalise it to
Google. You might be able to get it so that it generally skips the
sponsored Links, although I'm not sure how reliable that will turn out to
be.

Hi all.
I am a regular internet user and tend to use google for searching as many
do. When training new users, the bigest problem is getting past the
sponsored links quickly and looking at the propper results.
I search for the word Cached and then know that probably I am on the
first
result. Anyone else got any suggestions? I use JAWS version 7.
Cheers
