On a desktop generally I wouldn't touch a USB WIFI Dongall.

They are flaky.

Go for a PCI WIFI Card. Any of the big brands, Linksys Belkon, or Net Gear G will be grand, unless you have an N Router then I'd recommend Belkon or Linksys.
