Just be aware that when I updated my bios from within windows, the computer
wouldn't speak for quite a few minutes, and I wouldn't be tempted to keep
pressing buttons as the last thing you want is your computer crashing whilst
it's updating the bios. Also check the readme file as it might tell you whether
any prompts will come up when you first reboot the computer. In my case I had
to press one of the function keys to get it to continue but obviously if you
can't see you wont be aware of the prompt and think there is something wrong.
Others on the list have reported that htey updated their bios without any
problems though

Subject: [access-uk] updating bios on my Toshiba Equim l50 laptop
Hi all,
Via automatic updates I've received an update for the bios of my laptop. I've
checked the file name on the Toshiba site and it is genuine, as it expressedly
name the update to be for my laptop brand, name and model. It is zipped and the
instruction for installation state I can do it with Windows, Vista.
As anyone done anything like this without sighted help? Can I do it running
JAWS? if so, will the shark read all the on-screen prompts? Is it likely there
won't be any and it is just a case of unzipping the file in a temp folder,
selecting it and pressing enter, let it do its thing and it will be done
automatically?
Should I create a restore point before attempting this or isn't bios recorded
in there? or is this simply too risky to attempt this without expert sighted
help?
In the read me, it states the update will shorten boot up time, that would be
nice as it is much longer than on my xp running system.
Advice/comments very much welcomed.
Thanks in advance
Marie
