Hi Ray,
some phones have built in GPS recievers and as long as they can work with
the Wayfinder Access software, there would be no need to purchase a
seperate GPS reciever. I think the N82 built in GPS reciever will work well
with Wayfinder but Steve Nutt would be the person best able to confirm this.
You can purchase a seperate GPS reciever these days for around £50, so it's
not a great addition to the software if you have already got a mobile phone
with Talks on it.

I wade gingerly into this topic, but can someone please clarify? Do you
need just a mobile phone to host the Way Finder software, or do you need a
GPS receiver too?
If I were looking to justify the outlay on one of the mobiles being
discussed on the other thread then that investment serving as a platform
for Way finder with nout else to purchase, except Talks, then it does
sound quite interesting.
So, any comments welcome.
Cheers,
Ray.

Hi Peter, I listened to the Wayfinder clip as well and I aggree with you.
Granted, being a mobile phone based thing someone would need the phone
and the speech software, but a lot of people now have that, so given that
Wayfinder sounds like a reasonably priced and efficient system.

I took a listen to that and that is exactly the sort of information that
I
would want not what we were hearing from that trecker breeze demo.

Hi Peter, I've done a Google search to see what I could find with regard
to Wayfinder Access podcasts, and have only found one so far. It was
done last year by a guy in the States. The link is
http://www.triumphonic.com/demos/wfademo.mp3
I'll keep on looking. If anyone finds one please could they post the
link?

John, had to smile at these thoughts of yours. I can tell you of at
least two points of interest, the Thisle Hotel or maybe Straf-Allan,
and the Garden House pub across the road. Of course there are many
hotels around that area too. You mean to say none of this came up?
Folks, save your four or five hundred quid and get something better!
Cheers,
Ray.

Hi everybody, I'm awaiting with interest peoples' comments now we've
had opportunity to hear the Trekker Breeze. Judging by the comments
of those on the walk they were less than impressed with its
performance. It only announced one road junction, and that was it.
Noannouncements of surrounding features, pubs, theatres, etc, as
Humanware claim in their blerb it will announce. The only ttwo things
that were announced were a trash bin and the sight village gates,
both of which had been manually entered as landmarks.
A lady asked the question if she was going to the hospital by taxi
and then walking back would the trekker breeze take her home. The guy
from Humanware said it would, but the taxi would have to take the
exact route she'd walk.
In another part of the podcast someone asked about announcements of
surrounding features, and one of the items consisted of a snatch of
conversation between walkers, which the unit said was 400 feet from a
road junction.
Over the whole walk there were very few announcements. I take it the
Humanware rep was sighted. The best test of it would have been for
the walk to have been done with the blind party, without the sighted
guy, just using the trekker breeze.
Given how little it would seem to be able to do without being told I
think the price is excessive.
John.
