Hi Annabel,

The reason for controlling the speed is battery preservation. If you want
to just read a book, or do something that is not very processor-intensive,
then just slow down your clock speed and you get more battery life. That is
why it is controllable.

All the best

Steve

Hi Caroline, I can answer your first question re the NC10 but do not know
the answer to the second one.
Someone very kindly sent me this information a day or two ago and I found it

most useful, see below:
fn and f1 seems to bring up a help function, from what I can gather.
fn and f2 bring up the battery manager apparently.
fn and f3 inserts a euro sign at the typing cursor.
fn and f4 toggle between internal and external screens, if you have
one connected.
fn and f5 shuts off the lcd backlighting.
Fn and f6 mutes volume.
fn and f7 is something called the Samsung Magic Doctor, which
apparently diagnoses your systems problems, if it has any.
fn and f8 is apparently a speedstep function - it controls the speed
of the processor / system from what I've read, though why that should
be user controllable is beyond me. The symbol on the key is a little running

person or
something ? You get three choices - silent (for moments when you want
it to run,er, quiet !), normal (it controls itself according to what
it's doing) or speed (which is running flat out from what I gather).
fn and f9 turns wi-fi on and off.
f10 toggles the touch pad on and off..
fn and f11 is the number lock.
From what I can gather f12 is scroll lock (though I confess I've
never used scroll lock so I don't know what it does !)
Hope that helps. Annabell.
