Have you done the obvious rebooting, even re-installing TALKS?

  Does anyone know why my talks key isn't working properly?  B    asically, if 
I press the talks key, followed by any of the numeric  keys, they don't 
respond.  e.g. talks key and 9 for the time, nothing happens.  None of the 
other keys will work with talks either.
