Andy,

I think setup programs are supposed to automatically create a restore =
point
for you, however on several occasions I've found this not to be the =
case.
Therefore I create a manual restore point before running the executable =
file
before installing the said program.

Cheers,

Mark

Hi -

I'm still uncertain about system restore - if I've installed a bunch of
programmes, is it best to create a system restore point afterwards, so =
if a
crash occurs, I can restore to the point after I installed the =
programmes -
is this how it works?

Hi

1. From the start menu, go to programs, accessories, system tools, =
system
restore.

2. I am unclear as to whether you would like to restore your machine to =
an
earlier installation restore point, or create a manual restore point,
meaning that you can definitely return to it later.

Possible types of restore points are: system checkpoints (scheduled =
restore
points created by your computer), manual restore points (restore points
created by you), and installation restore points (automatic restore =
points
created when certain programs are installed).

For now, we will assume you want to return to an earlier installation
restore point. Press alt+R to activate this radio button, although it =
is
selected by default. Having said all that, jaws reads this screen very =
well
anyway as it is html based, so use the arrow keys in the way you would
normally explore aweb page.

3. Once the radio button has been selected, press the letter B to reach =
the
next available button which is titled "next", then press enter.

4. You are now able to select a point to which you wish to return. By
default, this is all activity of today. If you wish to view the restore
points for today, press the letter L to reach the list of restore =
points,
and arrow down to view them. For example, the list on my computer for =
today
shows:
  15:30:10 Installed MSN Messenger 6.2

However, a calendar is also available from which you can select a =
previous
date to take your machine back to. Activate the jaws cursor, and use =
this
to explore the calendar. You can only return to dates which are in =
bold, so
use the jaws cursor to focus upon a date, then hit insert+F to verify
whether the text is in bold or not. If it is, and you want to return to =
it,
hit the left mouse button to activate it, then return to the pc cursor.

The list then changes to reflect the installation
restore points for the given date. Assuming you are happy with this, =
press
the letter B repeatedly until the "next" button is reached, then press
enter.

That's about it. You may need to confirm the operation at that point by
activating another "next" button, then windows will do whatever it needs =
to
do. Note there will be no speech during this operation until at the =
very
least the computer re-starts.
