Hi,

My recommendation would be to get K1000, as the stand-allone units are
designed for older people who want to read books etc. They lack the
controls you come to expect from Kurzweil et al, such as searching,
saving as standard files etc.

Andrew.

Subject: [access-uk] software or standalone ocr?

Hello all and Merry Christmas.

I am starting with my new job in the new year and I need some advice on
OCRs.
The local authority that I will be working for uses mixture of windows
2000 and XP. I know I can get jaws work with these operating systems.
My question is either to get software based OCR and a scanner, such as
Kurzweil, or one of those standalone reading units. I have used
software OCRS, but have never tried standalone units before. In this
job, I will be doing quite a lot reading and research. I will also be
moving to different departments every six months.

If the suggestion is to get a standalone units, I really need
recommendations please.

Thank you for your help.

Merry Christmas to you all.
