[access-uk] software or standalone ocr?

Hello all and Merry Christmas.

I am starting with my new job in the new year and I need some advice on
OCRs.
The local authority that I will be working for uses mixture of windows 2000
and XP.  I know I can get jaws work with these operating systems.  My
question is either to get software based OCR and a scanner, such as
Kurzweil, or one of those standalone reading units.  I  have used software
OCRS, but have never tried standalone units before.  In this job, I will be
doing quite a lot reading and research.  I will also be moving to different
departments every six months.

If the suggestion is to get a standalone units, I really need
recommendations please.
