Alexander, I have not been following this thread carefully, so I apologise if 
the following is not relevant.  

Have you looked in the Set Program access and defaults in the Start 
Menu?    It is not one of the easiest to handle with a screen reader but that 
is where I would go to change default browser or e-mail client.
