Well Daran, the most important function non-access to time/date function denys us is the timer recording facility, which does lessen the recorder's value for money to us, but it is a big step forward beyond what recorders with untagged speech prompts allow. I guess TTS capability would have increased the price somewhat. Michael Lang does tell us that as it is, the recorder uses around 200 WMA voice prompt files as it is. It would be interesting if a more specialist version of this recorder could be made available through, say Aids to Living, but I know that's not at all likely to happen. I thought Michael did an excellent job of describing the functions. I just thought it was a shame that it is not completely accessible. It seems that any functions that require you to enter times or dates are not spoken. This may or may not be a problem depending on what you are going to use the machine for. But I don't think it would have taken much effort for Olympus to make all the menu functions accessible. From what I've heard the only difference between the DS 40 and DS 50 is the amount of memory. The former having 512MB & the latter having 1GB. If I were to buy one I think I would go for the DS 40 as the amount of recording time is still very impressive. It will be interesting to see if the price comes down in the next few months.
