You will be able to change the username on the dial up connection by opening it
and filling out the dialogue as required and then pressing enter to connect,
next time you should have the same details.

Hi Tristram,
Thanks for that info. I should also point out that when I signed up for
Orange broadband, I was told that all my info would remain the same, user name
and password, but I have since learned that my user name had changed from
findhorn.fslife.co.uk to findhorn.fslife.co.uk@fs
I was assured by a customer service rep that the @fs addition had always been
there but its the first time I've come across this extension. Of course when I
was installing the software I put in my user name. Might this be where the
problem is? Should I re-install the broadband software?
Again many thanks for any help offered.

A broadband modem doesn't actually dial a real number, the 0 is sufficient,
all you are really doing is logging onto the service via a card in the
telephone exchange that connects you to your provider, therefore the username
and password are really important there. In Windows XP your dial up
connections are kept in "network connections" it may be a good idea to dispense
with the old dial up connection if that is really no longer needed, however in
Outlook Express you check in the account settings whether that it is not
relying on a specific connection, so long as you have that arrangement it
should not be an issue.
Some USB modems have a diagnostic panel which is able to determine if there
is a broadband signal to use or not, trouble is this varies from modem to
modem, where and how.

Hello List,
With sighted help, I got my orange broadband software installed on my pc,
but when I go to launch outlook express or internet explorer I get
invalid
user name or password. I've checked out my settings and so on and seem
to
have got nowhere. I'm told that I am dialing 0 whereas before I was
dialing
a long number. Moreover, might there be a conflict with my old dial-up
settings? I'm a bit wary of calling the Orange broadband tech support as
its 50P per minute.
I hope the list will be patient as broadband is uncharted waters for me.
Cheers and thanks in advance.
