Have contacted them and they say that capchas are only used when they can’t guarantee the security of your connection, EG if they can’t verify that you are connected via a UK ISP – which would explain the on holiday case – I’m currently at work so not on my plus.net connection, and apparently they don’t like the connection I am on. They don’t have the ability to switch capchas off on a per account basis – and even if they did would I want them to? Of they need to use such a method for security then I want my data to be secure too, I don’t want the defence switched off unless they have an alternative. They don’t as yet have a solution so I’ve told them I’ll use captcha killer and hope that they don’t consider this a breach of their terms and conditions. Captcha killer is a system that appears to be set-up for the vi community to break capchas, you register and then when you come across a capcha, you save the offending image to your machine, upload it to capcha killer, which extracts the security code for you, which you enter in to the applicable site and bob’s your uncle. Worked a dream on the plus.net webmail thankfully. Although have to say I didn’t find the captcha killer process all that intuitive, no instructions to tell you how the site works and you have to explore for your self to see what to do next for example when you upload and image nothing tells you that you then have to go to the “capchas” area to see the results. Good that it works – but I still want a resolution from plus.net that means it doesn’t have to.
