thanks for that. the rnib and cobolt have stoped selling the stand alone
unit. i have found a phone that does the trick.

Hi Jim,
I don't have an actual phone that announces incoming calls, but I do
have a separate caller ID unit that announces the number as the
telephone rings. I got it from the RNIB, although that was some years
ago and whether they still sell this unit or not I don't know. Failing
that, you could try

as I think they also sold a caller ID unit. I don't think I've seen an
actual phone that does this.
