Hi Aedan & All,

Don't think that the iAudio 5 is around now these days!

Yes I havve one bought it oh about 5 or so years ago.

I find it great but don't use it that much.

By the way the shop tells me that there still sought after even today!

I can't find the post unfortunately butt Laz Mesa posted to this list re MP3 players and Rockbox oh about a couple of months ago; good it was too.

Trust that he could repost or someone else?

Hopefully it's not regarded here as advertising with him as he does supply and also install Rockbox for folk.

HTH,

Best,

Tony Sweeney

Hi Jim,
This device is nothing to do with Apple.
The maker is Cowon. If you Google cowon iaudio x5 you should get the

Hi Eden,

Thanks for the info on the IAudio. At first I thought it
was just another model from Apple but now you've got my
interest going in this model. Who are the manufacturers of
the IAudio range?

Regards

Jim

Hi Jim
I bought mine on Ebay about 4 years ago. It is the model
Iaudio x5 (30g).
Size: about 2ins wide and 4 ins top to bottom. Top half is
lcd colour
screen.
Price unknown, roughly 180 Eur but I may be wrong.
Hard drive 30g
To get this talking you need to get the free open source
software called
Rockbox from
www.rockbox.org

They have a download and automatic installer for the Iaudio
x5 among a lot
of others.
You can install this yourself because the unit is attached
to the pc by a
usb lead. It comes up as another hard drive and Jaws will
work perfectly on
it.
My particular model may now be out of production. I did see
one some months
ago on Ebay.
Rockbox is a replacement operating system for this and many
other mp3
players and it is designed to voice all files and folders.
Regards
Aedan

Hi Eden,

Excuse my ignorance but I've never heard of the IAudio. Can
you give me some more details, such as size, price and
stockists?

Hi Nicki,
I would suggest something like the IAudio. I know that in
Dublin a certain
store will supply with speech loaded. This unit behaves like
a hard drive
and you make your own folders with windows explorer or Dos.
When you have
all your music arranged on it you run a program in the root
folder called
Voicebox. This makes the unit call out all the file names as
you arrow up
and down. Have one and wouldn't be without it.
They come in 20g, 30g and 60g hard drive sizes. There are
different models
but you have to be careful that the rockbox software can be
put onto it.
I have an IPod as well but while this has speech as well it
is very messy to
set up if you are putting on previously ripped cds or
downloaded mp3s. It
makes a mess of folders, etc. If you rip cds through Itunes
and put them
onto the Ipod it works fine.
Regards
Aedan.

Subject: [access-uk] new member with a question

hi everyone
i joined this list as i think it's going to be the best way
to get a
question answered about accessible mp3 players/ipods
I'm off to Australia for 6 weeks in September - and would
like to take alot
of music and cd's with me
i currently have 2 olympuses - which i can download audible
books on to -
but as yet, have not fathomed out how to put cd's on them
i had an ipod - but its broken - so now i'm hoping to get an
accessible mp3
player/ipod or similar that will hold alot of cd's and
songs approximately
500 plus songs
can anyone advise me on the easiest thing to buy - i am
really not good at
learning new technology - i did work out how to do things
with olympus and
audible - but only through following the braille
instructions laboriously
thanks in anticipation
from nicki
