Trust you've made your observations to RNIB, Kevin.
Must take a look myself.

RNIB
hi, now i've had a good look at the site, i've a couple of observations on
it, primarily related to the braille book part of it. firstly, it would be
useful to have the number of volumes of a particular book listed! secondly, i
think some work is needed on the categorisation of some books. for example, if
you want to browse "science" i was rather disappointed to find the category
listed 1660 books, with no way of narrowing them down further. also, some of
the books i came across in that category seem a little odd, i mean,
instructions fo dishwashers and such categorised as "science"? also, maps?
surely travel is more appropriate? i hope this is still a work in progress and
such things will be worked on at some point. my final observation realtes to
the prices listed. i'll relate it to maps again as this is the one area i went
into depth on. my observation is that the price listed on the item page is the
full price, it's not until your going through the checkout process that the
price changes to the discount price us blindies pay. i'd suggest this is a
little odd, why can't both prices be listed on the item page?
apart form all that, smile, it's a great resource and it's good to finally
have it available online.

hello brian,
you can't download books right now. we're in negotiation with the software
manufacturers to obtain the necessary permissions. so downloads will come
before too long.

Brian.

from RNIB
hello listers,
I thought you'd be interested to know about a new web catalogue and
book streaming service from RNIB. If you go to www.rnib.org.uk/booksite you
will find our new, very user friendly catalogue containing all our audio books,
Braille books, music and maps. You can also register and buy items that are
for sale. The audio books are not just our conventional talking books but also
daisy versions of many of the most popular titles that we have recorded for
individuals. So as well as fiction and biographies you can find cookery,
gardening, the whole range of academic subjects and even books on the Archers
and old steam railways.
You can also join our bookstream bookclub and for £50 a year you can
stream audio books direct to your PC. So, just like a sighted person, you can
browse around, find something you're in the mood for and begin reading it
straight away.
But take a look for yourself and tell us what you think.
If you've got any queries that aren't answered on the site itself you
can contact our technology support team on 08459 000015.
Or talk to customer services on 0845 702 5153 You are also most welcome
to contact me directly by email: john.Godber@xxxxxxxxxxxx
Happy reading.
John
