Alestair I remember in the days of the diskettes there was a little slider 
thing  on one of the corners for right protect, I wonder if there is something 
similar on your Micro SD card which somehow or other got moved.  Why not Google 
right protect SD card and see what you get.

      Hi folks, just bought a micro sd card and after a few uses it is now 
reporting that it is right protected and now not even showing as a volume in 
the list of drives, anything I can do about this? It's only a 4GB card so no 
great loss but I just wondered if there were a means to reverse the situation,
