Unless you are a developer you do not need it. Packages like Soundforge 8.0
seem to require it for it's file browser, so far the only application I have
come across whcih requires it.

I regularly go to Windows update and, on the rare occasions I check for
updates other than priority updates, I am offered MS .net 1.1, or similar.
Can someone tell me, in words I might understand, (smile) what benefit, if
any, I would get from installing this?
