Hi James,

There is also 7digital. This is a very accessible site, but of course, the
content is protected WMA files. The site is http://www.7digital.com. This
to me is better than Napster, because you don't lose the rights to the track
if you unsubscribe, as you purchase the track, usually for 79P per track.
You can then download it onto three different computers, and you can synch
the tracks on a PDA, and you can even burn them to CD more than once,
without re-buying the track. I love Napster, but it is just too restrictive
for my liking.

All the best

Sorry, should have suggested some positive alternatives rather than just
moaning.

For mp3s there is www.emusic.com, I think they specialise in 'alternative'
music so probably don't do the major labels. There is Napster, and also I
believe that the Itunes scripts that are available will soon support the
Apple music store. Not mp3 I know, but better than nothing.

on investigation, I discovered that This site is - well - semi-legal. It
operates due to a loophole in Russian law which means that the provision
of
digital music files for download over the internet isn't technically
illegal, in Russia anyway. Allofmp3.com includes work by artists who
haven't licensed their work for online distribution such as the Beatles.
As
far as I know the only people who are profiting from the site are its
owners, not the performers or the record companies. No, sadly the music
industry hasn't yet grown up enough to offer something as useful and
practical as that site off its own back, and insists on providing files in
.messedaboutwith format. How long before we need breakfast serial
authorisation codes?
