Hi Kevin, In very simple terms, XP Professional is designed for high security network systems which private users are most unlikely to require. Such systems are used in commercial companies where individual users are only allowed access to specific areas of the system or network, usually determined by their job specification. Clearly you would not want an employee in the sales department being able to access payroll records, for example. Consequently, JAWS absolutely MUST follow all security measures of such a system. Now in essence, there is only the security issue difference between JAWS Standard and JAWS Professional. However the higher cost also reflects the degree of supporting an XP Professional user. As I dealer, I was initially somewhat taken aback by this, but after 5 or 6 years of selling JAWS, I can assure you that when an XP Professional support call comes up, it isn't usually five minute call, and indeed some cases can go on for days. Nowadays, many schools, colleges and universities demand XP Professional before they will allow students to access their networks. However, for the private user, even with a small home network, XP Home version is perfectly adequate. That said, many of the more powerful PCs and laptops now come with XP Professional as standard, simply because of network capability demand.
