Yes Carol, it hides the on screen keyboard, I think.

Jackie,

That happened to my keyboard one day.  I did change batteries but still 
found I had to just "play around".  Suddenly it sprang back into proper life 
again instead of just a few keys working.

I'm not sure what the "Hide Keyboard" option does either.  Anyone know?

Perhaps it stops the keyboard letters being shown on screen so you can 
wander around a bit more freely ...  Just guessing a bit!
