[access-uk] Re: help needed on the DDA

Hi Christine.

I agree with you totally. You know, when I was working, I could phone the
RNIB'S Student Adviser in Glasgow, or Petersburg and request multiple copies
of the Student's Folder. This folder was fantastic. It had loads of
information in it, from recommended tape recorders to applying for a Higher
Educational Grant. Well, Guess what? Shortly before I stopped working, the
RNIB were charging vip's £5.00 for this pack. At that point I totally
changed my opion of this organisation, it's just a big con. Incidentally,
the GDFBA considered changing it's name to the Guide Dog's for Visually
Impaired People, because, like myself, many slightly sighted people now have
dogs. Well, they decided not to change the name, and I was told that the
general public sympathise with totally blind people and will give money to
support them, but they are suspicious of partially sighted people. In
addition to this, all these so called organisations to assist visually
impaired people were recently criticised for not employing enough vip
workers. Honestly, although I am a guide dog owner, if I was to leave
anything to anyone, it would be a local children or pensioner group and none
of these financial institutions who are only using us. Finally, when you
consider that 97% of vip's of working age are unemployed, you got to ask
yourself, why should we even bother!

Best wishes.
Andy
