[access-uk] Re: headphones adaptor

Well Kevin, basically what you need is a Y lead consisting of two
3.5mm mini jack plugs to a 3.5mm mini jack socket - assuming your
headphones have a 3.5mm jack plug. There should be no danger in
doing this, but you could run into problems whereby the sound
level of the cards is quite noticeably reduced so have to pump up
the volume. (The obvious source for such Y adaptors is Maplin,
but you could do worse than give Hagger Electronics a call.)

Another, more elegant solution would be to route the output of
one sound card's line out to the line in of the other. You would
then have to adjust the line level of the card receiving the line
input via the mixer for that card.

If you want to save yourself all this trouble you could of course
do as Mary suggests and don two pairs of phones.
HTH.

hi, okay, basically i have two sound cards in this pc. on
occasions it would
be helpful to have the audio from both sound cards (i have jfw
set to one
and all other audio to the other) running into one pair of
headphones. hope
that explains things a bit better!

Kevin. At the very least, what you are after is a 'Y' type
lead - a male socket to two male plugs. (The actual plugs and
socket will depend on whether the devices have 3.5mm sockets, 1/4
inch, or whatever. Also, you don't mentioon whether they are
stereo or not.

All that said, if the two devices need to be kept electrically
isolated, then some sort of transformer or mixer device will be
needed. So, if you can be a bit more specific maybe I or someone
here can help you.
