Thanks for the prompt reply, Peter. I'm ok, both my HD's are NTFS.

Go to My Computer, highlight C colon, then hit alt enter and use the jaws

How do you tell what format the disc is in the first place?
Thanks

Hi,
There should be no problem - I always format external media of this size
as FAT32, as it is more portable on a larger range of devices.
If you want to format the drive as NTFS, then you need to copy the
contents to a temporary location on the internal drive, do the format,
then copy it back over.
Thanks.
Andrew.

Subject: [access-uk] fat32 or ntfs
Hi,
my internal hard drive is formatted as ntfs and the external hard drive
is fat32. Would this cause any trouble at all? I have nearly 9 gb of
data on the external hard drive and I am using it as a backup drive.
How would I format the external hard drive into ntfs without losing the
data on it?
Using xp home.
Thank you.
Ali
