I've just written some information about myself hoping for an invitation which 
you need before you can create an account, apparently.

  Well, I've taken a look at the site, so far as I'm able without creating an 
account, but haven't really discovered the purpose of an invite, as opposed to 
registering.  Perhaps you could enlighten me.
