Hello all, I'm forwarding this on behalf of Catherine.
Hi,
I'm having problems with sending e-mail and wonder if anyone's got any ideas
what's going wrong.
I have a freeserve e-mail address and a yahoo one. Up until yesterday
everything was fine with sending/receiving from both, but now I can't send
e-mail from the yahoo account, though I can receive it. This is the error
message I get when I try to send from my yahoo account (this is using
Outlook Express 6):
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Message for access-uk', Account:
'yahoo', Server: 'smtp.wanadoo.co.uk', protocol: smtp, server response: '550
error: message content rejected <0c1c9d2ee4ef2c0e63e3022e582dc9a2>', port:
25, secure (ssl): no, server error: 550, error number: 0x800CCC69
From looking on the net I thought the problem could be that the wanadoo
server won't let me send yahoo e-mail through it. So I looked on the yahoo
website to check that I had the right settings. Yahoo say you should use
smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk but that some ISPs won't allow you to send yahoo mail
while you are connected to the net through them (something like that
anyway) - and in that case you should use your ISP's smtp server to send
yahoo mail - which must have been why I had my yahoo account set to use
wanadoo's smtp server - I'd had it like this for a couple of years with no
problems.
So then I thought now that wanadoo is orange maybe the settings have
changed. I did actually originally have my yahoo account set to use
smtp.freeserve.com. Looking in my wanadoo account settings I saw the server
is smtp.wanadoo.co.uk so I tried that, still get the same error; So it
doesn't work with smtp.freeserve.com or smtp.wanadoo.co.uk.
I've e-mailed wanadoo to ask about this but I'm not sure if/when they'll get
back to me plus I have a feeling since I'm asking about a problem to do with
sending from a yahoo account they'll probably not care about it.
So has anyone got any ideas what could be wrong? Do you think that error
does imply I can't send e-mail through that server? Any other ideas? Don't
suppose anyone has a freeserve.co.uk and a yahoo.co.uk and
wanadoo/freeserve/orange as an ISP do you? If so maybe you could tell me
what settings you use...this is driving me up the wall! It was fine until
yesterday...
Thanks for any suggestions,
Catherine
