hi Mel
as an experiment i tried turning off norton internet security for a few
minutes then trying the site. it worked with no problem then so it would
appear that it is something in norton which is making IE shut down. any
ideas anyone??

Hi Kaz,
I had the same problem with this site on a friend's PC a while ago. I
never managed to solve it but I found that from the home page, right
clicking on the link and opening it in a new window was a reasonable work
around. This shutting down only seemed to happen from the home page.
