I'll be weary of attachments sent via gmail in future, I always exercise caution with attachment anyway and do not open them if I do not know their source. Thanks for the additional info, Douglas and have a good Summer if we end up having one this year that is...

All the best, Marie

Marie,
This is a subject which is causing me some concernat present. Eset say that Gmail (and a few others) send messages in an encrypted form which means, even when the port is changed to 995, it is not scanned. This applies to most clients although I understand that in some way MS Outlook gets round the problem. Eset insist however that the real time scanning of the messages once they have been downloaded would prevent anything malicious causing trouble, but I am a little nervous about this. In fact, at present, if I have a message with attachment, I immediately delete it and go and get it from the web interface instead - Google claim to virus scan anything before it is downloaded to your computer.

Just to complicate things even further, a friend (not on this list), who recently installed Eset Smart Security claims to have detected very occasional messages lacking the Tag confirming that they have been scanned. And he is not using Googlemail! He is currently in
correspondence with Eset but is still a little concerned.

Sorry not to be more re-assuring, but...

Douglas

reviewing my mail I find your message about which I'd like more info
please. Are you saying that gmail messages coming through outlook express
are not checked by Nod32? If something in there has to be configured,
would you mind giving me instructions please? Thank you in advance.
Frightening to think I might be at risk! All the best, Marie -----
