Audacity is an audio recorder/editing software. The nature of recording that
can be achieved with your keyboard (having had a quick glance at your manual)
is in saving MIDI and and file data from the unit. In simple terms you cannot
use the USB port on the keyboard to send audio to your computer, it doesn't
have the capability to do so. They are using USB because it provides a richer
interface than boring old MIDI and doesn't frighten users quite so much who are
not familiar and it is also relatively cheap to do.

What you can do instead is use an audio lead plugged into the back of your
keyboard and connect it to the soundcard and then use Audacity or similar to
record the audio of the performance rather than the MIDI data.

There are keyboards and other modules that stream audio data to PCs but these
live higher up in the market food chain and are semi-pro/pro pieces of kit
costing rather more. But, as I say it is possible to achieve what you want
with the your existing kit for rather less than £15 extra.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

hi again, the keyboard is the Yamaha PSRE403, and according to information from
the Yamaha website, the e403 can be connected to the pc and be used to record
the e403 and edit the performance on the pc, and i have been told Audacity can
be used for this purpose, but i as yet have not found anyone who has achieved
this,

Billy
